Malom-tó

The Malom-tó, or Mill Pond, sits in the heart of Tata as a crystal-clear spring lake fed by underground karst waters. Its temperature stays constant at roughly twenty-two degrees Celsius year-round, which kept the water from freezing even during the coldest winters. In the eighteenth century, the Esterhazy family used this reliable current to power a series of mills that ground grain for the surrounding region. The waterwheel still turns slowly today, tethered to the stone walls of the old mill house.
