Király Thermal Bath

The Kiraly Thermal Bath features a massive, sixteen-sided stone dome punctured by small circular skylights that cast beams of light through the rising steam. Ottoman governor Arslan Pasha began building these walls in fifteen sixty-five, wanting a bathhouse located securely within the city ramparts. His builders used leftover materials from the medieval fortress to construct the pool area. During the nineteen forty-four siege of Budapest, a stray bomb shattered the roof, exposing the interior to the winter sky for decades.
