Dísz tér

The bronze statue of a hussar holding his sword high marks the center of Dísz tér. This square serves as the gateway to the Buda Castle district, acting as a buffer between the residential streets and the former royal palace. In the seventeenth century, the Turkish forces used the space as a parade ground. When the Habsburgs took control, they transformed the square into a marketplace where the city’s merchants sold their goods beneath the windows of the local aristocracy.
