Buda Castle

The Buda Castle sits on the southern tip of Castle Hill, defined by a massive green dome and a sprawling facade that stretches over nine hundred feet along the Danube. It serves as the historic seat of Hungarian kings. In nineteen forty-four, during the final months of the war, the hilltop became a final defensive stand for Nazi forces. Soviet troops encircled the complex, and the ensuing siege left the palace interior gutted and scorched, reducing the royal residence to a hollow stone shell.
