Fisherman's Bastion

The seven white stone turrets of Fisherman's Bastion rise above the Buda hills like a fortress pulled from a fairy tale. Built for the eighteen ninety-five millennium celebrations of Hungary, the structure marks the site of a medieval fish market where local fishermen supposedly defended the city walls during wartime. Architect Frigyes Schulek designed the neo-Romanesque balconies and stairs as a decorative terrace, ensuring that nobody living today would ever mistake this dreamlike silhouette for an actual military fortification.
