These steps serve as a direct path between the busy waterfront and the quiet residential streets perched high above the Danube. In the nineteen thirties, the city planners needed a functional way to connect these disconnected levels. A local official named Donáti became the namesake, though the steep grade remains the true architect here, forcing every passerby into a vertical workout.
