HaEgoz Street is a narrow, stone-paved passage defined by the low, thick-walled houses built by Persian Jewish immigrants in the early twentieth century. Unlike the planned, open courtyards nearby, the street follows a winding, irregular path that mirrors the way the neighborhood grew during the Ottoman period. Families often dug small, dark rooms directly into the hillside to expand their homes. One resident, a craftsman, spent years carving elaborate stone doorframes into the facade of his home, which remain there today.
