Diocesan Museum of Amalfi

The Diocesan Museum of Amalfi occupies the thirteenth century Basilica of the Crucifix, a space joined to the neighboring cathedral by a series of Romanesque arches. Its stone columns and vaulted ceilings once housed the religious life of a powerful maritime republic. Inside, the collection holds the mitre of Saint Eustace, a headpiece encrusted with over nineteen thousand pearls. A local fisherman recovered the relic from the sea centuries ago, and it remains the centerpiece of the cathedral's liturgical treasure.
