Piazza Municipio

Piazza Municipio functions as the municipal heart of Amalfi, easily identified by the wide, open stone paving that stretches out before the town hall. While most visitors flock to the nearby cathedral, this square holds the administrative history of a once-powerful maritime republic. In the nineteenth century, the local authorities moved their offices here, forever shifting the center of daily governance away from the church steps. A stone fountain marks the center, still serving as the quiet meeting point for locals conducting business.
