Atrani is a jagged slice of beach hemmed in by sheer limestone cliffs and the tightly packed stone houses of the village. It is the smallest municipality in Italy by land area, pushed into the narrow mouth of the Dragone Valley. For centuries, this tiny cove served as a private harbor for the aristocratic families of the Amalfi maritime republic. Today, fishing boats rest on the sand where the nobility once kept their galleys, tucked between the sea and the mountain.
