Paradise Cloister

The Chiostro del Paradiso features a series of slender, intertwined marble columns that support pointed Moorish arches. Built in the thirteenth century as a cemetery for the prominent merchant families of Amalfi, the cloister served as a place of rest for the city's wealthy elite. The arches lean sharply, creating a rhythm that mimics the palm trees once grown in the central garden. Archbishop Filippo Augustariccio commissioned these white marble tombs, ensuring his family remained preserved within the city's religious heart.
