Supportico Sant'Andrea

other

The Supportico Sant'Andrea is a narrow, covered passageway carved directly through the dense urban fabric of Amalfi. It is easily identified by the steep, vaulted stone ceiling that creates a dark tunnel, shielding travelers from the sun while connecting two bustling streets. In the middle of the nineteenth century, local authorities enclosed this lane to better support the crumbling residential structures pressing in from both sides. It remains a shortcut for residents, echoing with the sounds of daily life beneath its heavy masonry.
