Municipio di Amalfi

landmark

The Municipio di Amalfi occupies a pale, neoclassical building perched directly above the main coastal road, recognizable by its rhythmic row of arched windows and the Italian flag flying from the balcony. Once the site of the ancient Convent of San Benedetto, the building became the town hall in the nineteenth century. In nineteen twenty-four, mayor Giuseppe Della Corte organized a local ceremony here, unaware that a massive landslide would soon shift the very ground beneath the town’s administrative heart, forcing complex engineering repairs.
