Fuku-Haku Deai Bridge

landmark

The Fuku-Haku Deai Bridge connects the Hakata and Tenjin districts across the Sanjo River with a distinctive, wide wooden deck that feels more like a floating plaza than a thoroughfare. Built to celebrate the twelve hundredth anniversary of the founding of Fukuoka, it took its name from a public competition meaning the bridge where Fukuoka and Hakata meet. Local legend holds that couples who walk across the bridge together will find their own fated encounter lasting forever.
