The Kawabata Shopping Arcade stretches four hundred meters under a continuous arched roof, marked by its distinctive red and white decorative banners hanging from the ceiling. This narrow passage serves as the oldest commercial district in Hakata. Merchants began setting up stalls here during the Meiji era to serve travelers moving between the local shrines and the river. Today, the arcade houses over one hundred independent shops, ranging from traditional tea merchants to small restaurants serving local ramen.
