Kanonicza

Kanonicza Street remains the oldest thoroughfare in Kraków, marked by its uneven cobblestones and a dense row of late-medieval townhouses. It served as the primary route for royal processions heading toward Wawel Castle. Centuries ago, the street housed the city’s high-ranking canons, who built these stone residences to reflect their status. In fourteen sixty-two, a massive fire destroyed much of the neighborhood, leading these residents to rebuild with elaborate portals and courtyards that survive behind today’s heavy wooden doors.
