Plac Nowy in the Kazimierz district is defined by the circular brick building sitting dead center, known to locals simply as the Okraglak. It dates back to nineteen hundred, built to house kosher slaughterhouses and stalls for merchants selling produce and meat. During the German occupation in the second world war, the market was dismantled, but the structure remained. Today, the building serves as the heart of the city's nightlife, surrounded by vendors selling the zapiekanka, a popular open-faced toasted baguette.
