Saints Peter and Paul Church

Twelve stone apostles stand on pedestals along the iron fence in front of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. This building was the first structure in Krakow designed in the Italian Baroque style, commissioned by King Sigismund the Third Vasa for the Jesuits in the early seventeenth century. While the exterior displays a heavy, rhythmic facade, the architect Giovanni Trevano filled the interior with a cavernous, barrel-vaulted nave that was modeled after the Church of the Gesu in Rome.
