Wawel Cathedral

Wawel Cathedral stands apart with its mismatched collection of jagged, copper-clad towers and chapels clustered around a central dome. This is the coronation site of Polish monarchs and their final resting place for centuries. Inside, King Wladyslaw the Elbow-High was the first to be crowned here in thirteen twenty. His small, modest sarcophagus remains, while nearby, the heavy silver coffin of Saint Stanislaw rests beneath a massive canopy, supported by four angels cast from Swedish cannons captured in the seventeenth century.
