Fonte Mourisca

The Fonte Mourisca features a facade of white stone carved with intricate, repeating geometric patterns and horseshoe arches. Built in the late nineteenth century, this fountain served as a functional water source for Sintra residents. Jose da Fonseca, the architect, designed it to reflect the Moorish Revival style popular across Portugal at the time. Locals often came here to collect water, but the fountain also functioned as a social anchor, marking the transition between the town’s older paths and newer residential developments.
