Pisoes Waterfall

The waterfall at Pisões drops thirty meters over a sheer granite face, fed by the hidden streams of the Sintra mountains. It collects into a narrow, dark pool before the water continues toward the coast. In the late nineteenth century, this steep terrain became a focal point for the elite who built grand estates in the hills. Engineers diverted these natural flows to supply the elaborate gardens and ornate fountains that define the local landscape, transforming a wild, rugged cascade into a centerpiece.
