Villa Sassetti

historic

Villa Sassetti appears as a rugged, stony silhouette clinging to the mountainside, distinguished by its medieval-style battlements and arched windows. Built in the late nineteenth century by the Italian landscape designer Luigi Manini for the wealthy merchant Amedeo Sassetti, the villa served as a private residence designed to blend into the surrounding granite crags. When the property fell into disrepair decades ago, the gardens became a tangled thicket, hiding the terraced walls until the local municipality undertook a massive restoration project.
