Villa Estefânia stands out with its bright yellow facade and the intricate wrought iron balconies that wrap around its corner tower. Built at the end of the nineteenth century, it served as a private residence for a wealthy Portuguese family during a time when Sintra became the preferred summer retreat for the elite. The house demonstrates the ornate revivalist style that defined the neighborhood. Its builder, Manuel da Silva, famously insisted on importing the tiles for the exterior directly from a factory in Spain.
