The bell tower of Saint Martin Church features a distinctive, rounded roof that rises above the surrounding terra cotta tiles. This is the town’s oldest parish church, a site where the interior was completely destroyed by the great earthquake of seventeen fifty-five. While the congregation salvaged a few stone fragments from the wreckage, the building that stands here today is almost entirely a late eighteenth-century reconstruction. Local families still gather here for baptisms just as they did centuries ago.
