Akkash Mosque

The Akkash Mosque stands out for its whitewashed stone walls and the prominent, wide wooden staircase leading up to its main entrance. Built in the late eighteenth century by a trader named Akkash, the structure served the needs of merchants working in the nearby Al Balad market. While much of the district changed over the centuries, the mosque retained its traditional Hijazi architecture. Its foundation sits slightly elevated above the surrounding street level to protect the interior from seasonal flooding during heavy desert rains.
