Al Shafee Mosque

The Al Shafee Mosque features a weathered, circular minaret built of porous coral stone that has withstood the salty Red Sea air for centuries. Local tradition places the mosque's origins in the thirteenth century, constructed during the era of the Ayyubid dynasty. While historians debate the precise date of its founding, the structure remains one of the oldest places of worship in the historic district of Jeddah.
