Al Ma'amar Mosque

The Al Ma'amar Mosque features a rectangular minaret that rises sharply above the dense, coral-stone houses of Al Balad. Built in the late nineteenth century, the mosque served the merchant families who controlled the bustling trade routes passing through Jeddah. Muhammad Al Ma'amar, a wealthy trader, financed the construction to provide a space for the local community. The thick walls trap the cool desert air, while the intricate wooden latticework on the windows allows sunlight to filter into the prayer hall.
