The Hostal dos Reis Católicos features a massive, ornately carved Plateresque portal that anchors the entire building. Founded in fourteen ninety-nine by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, the structure served as a royal hospital for pilgrims arriving after the arduous journey to the cathedral. In fifteen twenty-four, the architects Enrique de Egas and Martín de Blas designed the complex with four interior courtyards. It remained a functioning infirmary for centuries, eventually transitioning into the luxury hotel that occupies the space today.
