Baluarte del Mirador

The Baluarte del Mirador sits at the edge of the Urgull hill, recognizable by the thick stone ramparts that jut out toward the sea. It was part of a seventeenth-century defensive system built to protect San Sebastian from French naval attacks. King Philip the Fourth ordered these fortifications strengthened after a series of sieges left the city vulnerable. Soldiers here spent their days watching the horizon, waiting for sails that rarely brought friendly visitors, turning this spot into the city's most watchful eye.
