Victoria Eugenia Theater

cultural

The Victoria Eugenia Theater anchors the neighborhood with its ornate sandstone facade and the prominent sculptures of women draped in garlands that flank its main entrance. Queen Maria Cristina inaugurated this building in nineteen twelve, marking the moment San Sebastian became the summer capital for the Spanish monarchy. During the inaugural gala, the building served as the centerpiece of the city's golden age. Performers entered through the grand foyer, while members of the court filled the velvet seats to watch the opening performance.
