The harbor of San Sebastián sits tucked between the slopes of Mount Urgull and the city center, sheltered by a stone sea wall that curves into the Bay of Biscay. While modern yachts now fill the slips, the harbor served for centuries as a vital strategic outpost for the Spanish crown. In fifteen twenty-two, it was from these docks that Juan Sebastián Elcano departed, returning three years later as the first captain to complete a full circumnavigation of the globe, having lost his commander along the way.
