Jesusen Bihotz Sakratuaren monumentua

historic

The bronze statue of the Sacred Heart stands twelve meters tall atop a high stone pedestal, arms outstretched toward the bay of San Sebastián. It was inaugurated in nineteen fifty, a massive project intended to crown the crest of Monte Urgull. The sculptor Federico Coullaut-Valera crafted the figure to replace a smaller, earlier monument that had been destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. Today, the statue watches over the harbor, a landmark visible from the city streets below and the water alike.
