The bronze sculpture of a dove sits atop a circular stone pillar on the edge of the Sagüés promenade. Known as Bakearen Usoa, or Dove of Peace, this work by Néstor Basterretxea marks the site where the city meets the rough waters of the Cantabrian Sea. It was installed in nineteen ninety-two to commemorate the official designation of San Sebastián as a city of peace. The metal wings reach upward, catching the salt spray that blows in from the Atlantic coast.
