Afloat is the bright blue, converted shipping container perched directly on the pebbles of Brighton Beach. It functions as a specialized studio for local artists to produce work within sight of the English Channel. The structure arrived here in twenty-fourteen after the local council sought ways to repurpose decommissioned industrial steel for the creative community. Its vivid cobalt paint job makes it stand out against the grey stone and the muted winter sky, housing workspace that shifts with the tides.
