Bedford Square

Bedford Square is defined by its two opposing crescents of pale yellow townhouses that curve inward to frame a private central garden. Built in the early nineteenth century, the square served as a grand residential project for the wealthy families migrating to Brighton during the Regency era. When the developer Henry Brooks completed these homes, he famously found himself bankrupt, leaving a trail of unpaid builders and creditors who struggled for years to settle the debts tied to the construction of these very walls.
