Royal Pavilion

The Royal Pavilion dominates its grounds with a cluster of bulbous stone domes and minarets that look as though they belong in Rajasthan rather than the English seaside. King George the Fourth commissioned this seaside retreat in the early nineteenth century to escape the rigid protocols of London. He brought in architect John Nash to transform a simple farmhouse into this sprawling, exotic palace. The prince once hosted a dinner here where a central dish was a boiled calf’s head served with brain sauce.
