Brighton Fishing Museum

The Brighton Fishing Museum sits in the brick arches directly beneath the Kings Road promenade. It is distinguished by the massive, restored clinker-built fishing boat parked prominently in the center of the room. This space documents the city's transformation from a tiny Saxon settlement called Brighthelmstone into a major Victorian resort. Fishermen once hauled their nets and boats across the shingle beach right here, until the city council built these arches in the nineteenth century to hold back the encroaching sea.
