Regency Square

Regency Square features a central garden enclosed by tall, cream-colored townhouses with cast-iron balconies that face directly toward the sea. Built between eighteen eighteen and eighteen twenty-eight, the square served the influx of wealthy visitors arriving by carriage to bathe in the English Channel. During the nineteen thirties, the underground bunkers beneath the gardens held thousands of people seeking safety during air raids. Today, the square sits atop a massive subterranean parking garage that hides the original sea-level view from the street.
