Brighton Beach Bandstand

The iron bandstand sits on the lower promenade, defined by its intricate, open-lattice Victorian canopy that contrasts with the expanse of the English Channel. It arrived here in eighteen eighty-four, cast by the Sun Foundry in Glasgow, to host brass bands for the promenading crowds. When a severe storm nearly destroyed the structure in nineteen eighty-seven, the local council dismantled it piece by piece to prevent its loss to the sea, eventually reinstalling the original ironwork during the restoration project.
