The Theatre Royal Brighton features a distinctive, neo-classical facade with a central colonnade that stands apart from the surrounding Regency storefronts. Opened in eighteen oh seven, this building served as a retreat for the Prince Regent, who held a private box here during his visits to the coast. In eighteen sixty-six, actor Henry Nye Chart took over, transforming the venue into a premier touring house. He once kept the theater afloat by selling off the scenery and costumes to pay the company’s debts.
