Brighton Town Hall

Brighton Town Hall sits in the center of the old town, easily identified by the wide, grand staircase leading up to its heavy, classical entrance. Thomas Read Kemp, a wealthy developer, bankrolled the building in the eighteen twenties to house the local government and a bustling fish market. During the initial construction, the architect Thomas Cooper included a dark, subterranean holding cell that served the local police for decades. Prisoners often heard the rowdy market traders shouting through the floorboards above them.
