McHughs Bar & Restaurant

McHughs Bar and Restaurant occupies the oldest building in Belfast, a structure dating back to seventeen eleven. Its walls consist of thick, uneven stone held together with lime mortar, a stark contrast to the modern glass and steel surrounding it along the waterfront. In the nineteenth century, the cellar served as a holding area for goods arriving at the docks, while the upstairs functioned as a family home. Today, the crooked staircase and low ceilings remain, preserving the layout of that original merchant house.
