Kuan Yin Temple 觀音廟

The Kuan Yin Temple on Vineyard Boulevard is identifiable by its bright orange tiled roof and the ornate, swirling dragons that decorate its entrance. Established in the late nineteenth century, the temple serves the Buddhist community of Honolulu and honors the goddess of mercy. During the nineteen seventies, a devastating fire destroyed the original structure, leaving only a bronze statue of the goddess standing amidst the ash. Followers saw this survival as a sign and rebuilt the temple exactly where it stood.
