Queen Lili‘uokalani Statue

The bronze statue of Queen Liliʻuokalani stands on the grounds of the State Capitol in Honolulu, her hands clutching a copy of the Constitution of eighteen ninety-three. She faces toward ʻIolani Palace, the home she was forced to leave during the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. Artist Marianna Pineda designed the figure to capture the Queen’s quiet resolve as she sought to protect the rights of her people. It remains the only statue of a monarch on public land in the state.
