Washington Place features a tall, white-columned portico that stands out against the lush tropical greenery of its surrounding gardens. This mansion served as the private home of Queen Liliuokalani, the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In eighteen sixty-two, John Dominis built the house for his family, and it eventually became the official residence for twelve territorial and state governors. The Queen lived here until her death in nineteen seventeen, often greeting guests on the broad front porch.
