The two story mural on the side of the parking structure at Ala Moana Center depicts a massive, blue-tinted octopus wrapping its tentacles around the building columns. Kai Kaulukukui painted this piece using a restricted palette of deep ocean hues to emphasize the creature's scale. He spent several days balanced on a scissor lift to complete the work, often working through the humid nights to capture the precise bioluminescent glow of the tentacles. It remains one of the largest public marine murals in Honolulu.
