The Financial Plaza of the Pacific occupies the city block bounded by King, Bishop, and Merchant streets. Its design features two towers linked by a low-slung, glass-walled lobby and a courtyard that sinks below the sidewalk level. Architect Leo Daly finished this complex in nineteen sixty-eight, replacing the old Alexander and Baldwin building. On the day the plaza opened, the architects insisted on an open, public garden space, a rare choice for a dense business district in the middle of downtown Honolulu.
