Pineapple Totoro and Catbus Mural

A wall in Honolulu features an oversized Pineapple Totoro standing beside a fuzzy, grinning Catbus. This mural appeared on the side of a local building as a collaboration between street artist Kamea Hadar and the crew from Pow Wow Hawaii. While Totoro remains a creature of Japanese animation, the pineapple pattern painted on his belly ties him directly to the history of plantation life in the islands. The mural brings a piece of Ghibli forest folklore into the middle of a concrete city block.
