South Adgers Wharf

South Adgers Wharf is a long, narrow paved alleyway running directly toward the Charleston harbor. It is defined by the high, windowless brick walls of nineteenth-century warehouses that flank the path. In the eighteen thirties, merchant James Adger built these structures to store cotton and rice destined for international markets. Adger once sat in an office at the wharf entrance, managing a fleet of ships while watching the tides move cargo in and out of the city from his front door.
