Thirty-one Anson Street is a two-story brick house with a tall, double-tiered piazza tucked behind a high garden wall. Built around eighteen hundred and forty, it follows the traditional Charleston side-hall plan, placing the main entrance on the porch rather than the street front. When the fire of eighteen sixty-one swept through Ansonborough, this house survived, leaving it as a rare, preserved example of the neighborhood’s antebellum residential architecture. It spent decades as a private home before serving as a local florist shop.
